On January 4 (Wednesday), New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s largest yearly event “WRESTLE KINGDOM 11 in Tokyo Dome” was held, and a great matches that shook the arena took place.
In the main event (10th match), the IWGP heavyweight champion, Kazuchika Okada, challenged the “2016 G1 CLIMAX" winner, Kenny Omega. The dynamic battle was further accelerated by Omega's no-touch Topé con Hilo. Although Okada was forced to struggle by the challenger’s unprecedented attack, which included a foot stamp using a desk, he threw Omega out of the ring to a desk with shoulder through and fought back. After the match, Okada said, "New Japan Pro-Wrestling is tough, but I can carry it on my back. I can still carry it. I will make the New Japan Pro-Wrestling even bigger! As long as I can carry it, it will rain gold in New Japan Pro-Wrestling!”. After that, the tournament ended.
In the semi final (9th match), IWGP Intercontinental champion Tetsuya Naito engaged Hiroshi Tanahashi. Tanahashi robbed the champion’s mobility by hitting intensely on his left knee. However, Naito also hit his opponents’s left knee repeatedly. Both men, based on the attack on the other’s knee, pulled out an intense, great match and developed a seesaw match. In the end, Naito succeeded in defending his title by performing swing-type back Tornado DDT followed by Destino. After the match, Naito bowed after hitting Tanahashi’s chest, showing respect.
In the eighth match for NEVER Open-weight Belt, the defending champion Katsuyori Shibata fought the challenger Hirooki Goto. Shibata's persistent joint skills with intense kicks drove Goto down with tough attacks. However, Goto fought back fiercely and both played an aggressive match. In the climax of the match, Goto delivered his Reverse GTR signature move and won. He defeated his rival and won the NEVER belt.
In the seventh match, the IWGP junior heavyweight champion KUSHIDA confronted Hiromu Takahashi. KUSHIDA, who was forced to struggle against the desperate attack by Hiromu, including the Diving Senton, pushed to defeat his opponent with his signature Hoverboard Lock. However, Hiromu, who survived the match of the champions, scored three counts by his TIME BOMB move. He won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship for the first time.
The sixth match was a three-way match for the IWGP Tag Team Championship between the defending champions Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga and Tanga Rora), the “2016 WORLD TAG LEAGUE" winners Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma, and the team of Tomohiroshi Ishii and Toru Yano in a three-pronged battle. While the champions and the Makabe team fought a fierce match, Yano demonstrated his own “inside work”. When he delivered a 634, a double low blow, behind the champion group, which led to Roa being rolled by him and made him and Ishii won the belt.
In the fifth match, the ROH World Championship, the defending champion Kyle O'Reilly fought the former champion Adam Cole. The card that was imported directly from ROH was attacked by O'Reilly's special kick and joint skill. However, Cole who was eager to defend the belt, stopped O’Reilly movements in a series of trash kicks, it exploded the last shot and regained the belt.
In the fourth match, BULLET CLUB's new member Cody confronted Juice Robinson. Although Juice delivered heavy attacks, Cody who was a fierce fighter and was active also on WWE did not let up his pace. Finally, he successfully switched Pulp Refriction and won by a Cross Rhodes.
The third match was a gauntlet match for the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship between the champions Satoshi Kojima, Ricoche, and David Finlay, with SANADA & EVIL & BUSHI group, Bad Luck Fale, Yujiro Takahashi, and Hangman Page group and YOSHI-HASHI, Will Osprey, and Jado group. Finlay group who initially gave a fierce fight, won from the YOSHI-HASHI group. Next, they collided with the SANADA group, but lost because of the combination of the opposing team's iron walls. The SANADA group and the champion group confronted at the end. Although the champions struggled for defense, the SANADA group won as they kept on hitting Kojima with the Poisonous Fog by BUSHI and Darkness Fields by EVIL. L.I.J became the new NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions.
In the second game, to defend the IWGP Junior Tag Championship, The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) fought against Roponggi Vice (Rocky Romero and Beretta). Although the challenger was be inferior to the unique combination of the champions, at the end Rocky pinned Nick and reversed the situation. They succeeded in taking the belt.
In the first game, Tiger Mask and Tiger the Dark, fateful rivals, leaped out from the animation world in a special match of the TV anime "Tiger Mask W". Tiger W won by the Tiger Driver in one round in a match where both showed brilliant aerial skills and excited the whole venue.
The zero fight featured the New Japan Rumble, all 14 players participated, including Michael Elgin who had been absent for a long time from New Japan, and former players such as Kuniaki Kobayashi and Scott Norton. Lastly, Elgin defeated ROH’'s Cheeseburger using Elgin Bomb and won the match.
