NJPW represent in Grand Prix 2022

Volador Jr. victorious in international clash

New Japan Pro-Wrestling was heavily represented in CMLL’s Grand Prix this past weekend, as Tiger Mask, Rocky Romero and Robbie Eagles joined ‘Team World’ to take on a team of CMLL representatives in an eight on eight elimination bout.

Initially planned as a 7v7 match, one more member on each side was added; Eagles, Tiger and Romero were joined by Mesias, Oraculo, Kenny King, Matt Taven and Lince Dorado opposite CMLL’s Volador Jr, Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis Jr., Titan, Soberano Jr., Stuka Jr. and Templario.

The intense action carried Arena Mexico into a frenzy for over 56 minutes. The last two on each side were Mistico and Volador taking on one time bitter rivals Rocky and Tiger Mask. Tiger would land a Tiger Driver on Mistico to eliminate him and put Team Mexico on the back foot, until Volador landed a Destroyer on Romero eliminating him.

In the end, Tiger Mask would land a big top rope butterfly suplex, but it wasn’t enough to put away Volador, who came back with a Spanish Fly to win the match for his side in 56:33.
