New York Icon: Mayu Iwatani Retains in NYC 【NJoA】

Iwatani retains in history making performance

Order the Rumble on 44th Street replay!

History was made on Rumble on 44th Street October 28 when a STARDOM Championship in the SWA World title was defended in a NJPW ring for the very first time, Mayu Iwatani defending against KiLyn King.

King had the size advantage in the match, and used the strength edge to crank in a headlock early, before denying a bodyslam attempt from the champion. With clubbing forearms, King was able to stop Iwatani building momentum until some impressive use of the ropes opened the door for a headkick and then a big tope suicida. A shotgun dropkick would follow back inside, but Iwatani would only get one.

A thrust kick and double stomp would do one better as the champion got a two from the referee before a picture perfect moonsault, but one that only found empty canvas. King drilled Iwatani with a slam to the mat before a perfect stack in the pinfall, but the challenger only got two. Getting even closer to victory with a pumphandle driver, a frustrated King almost fell to an unforced error as Mayu delivered a crucifix bomb, but the match continued.

A head kick scored big for King, but the champion was able to respond with a release Dragon suplex. A frog splash followed, but Iwatani still couldn’t get three. The challenger roareed in defiance, but a roundhouse kick to the head and the Moonsault led to three.
