Finlay and SANADA go face to face ahead of final
March 20 would see a public press conference before Tuesday March 21’s New Japan Cup final in Aore Nagaoka. As both took the press conference table in front of the next day’s grand prize, David Finlay brought up speculation that has followed him since joining BULLET CLUB.
‘People have asked if I’m closer to championship gold than I was before,’ Finlay recalled, before reminding fans that he’d beaten Tomohiro Ishii, Great-O-Khan and Shota Umino clean, ‘so what chance does SANADA have when all he’s done is leave LIJ to become Just Another Guy?’ Finlay said that ‘there is nothing but blood and gold in my future,’ before saying ‘there is nothing anything can do about it.’
SANADA would quip that ‘this year people have left, people have moved around, my opponent came back from overseas and all of a sudden he’s in BULLET CLUB, the most popular faction just lost a key guy.’ SANADA said that there was a lot of uneasiness, that he wanted to dispel with a cup win.
When asked what he felt about SANADA, Finlay said ‘I cracked Jay White in the skull and took over the greatest faction in history. He became Just Another Guy, and there is no comparison between us.’ In contrast, Finlay said that ‘we have a lot in common. We both moved factions, we both switched to black hair. The difference is he’ll be the runner up, and I’ll be the winner.’
When asked the vision both had as cup winners, Finlay would declare himself the ‘greatest wrestler in the greatest wrestling family. The only thing missing is the greatest prize. It is my destiny.’ SANADA admitted that when it came to he and Okada, the Rainmaker had moved ahead while he had declined, but that with the a cup win, he’ll start to close a gap and end in Ryogoku with himself on top.
Playing to his home crowd, SANADA would declare Nagaoka as the best town in Japan, and ‘Aore Nagaoka is the most beautiful venue in Japan’. Finlay took exception with the assertion, but could not get a rise from SANADA as the press conference came to a close.
