The fighting game community has their eyes on Florida this weekend, as the CEO Fighting Game Championships descend on Daytona. The action isn’t all virtual though, as New Japan Pro Wrestling brings the fight from screen to ring!
Huge tag matches made! Golden Lovers vs LIJ! RPG 3K vs Taguchi Japan!
With his celebrated status in the fighting game community, not to mention his IWGP Heavyweight Championship, Kenny Omega has the most attention heading into Florida. He’ll be teaming with Kota Ibushi as the Golden Lovers take on Tetsuya Naito and Hiromu Takahashi of Los Ingobernables De Japon. There’s a lot of antagonism between Naito and both of the Lovers; Naito and Ibushi’s rivalry is a long standing one, and Naito was recently angered by some inflammatory comments to the press from Kenny. Omega insinuated that Japanese native talents like Naito don’t work as hard as their foreign counterparts, something that didn’t sit well at all with El Ingobernable. Meanwhile, Hiromu Takahashi is a video game character come to life, and his reckless style is sure to win over the Florida crowd.
Meanwhile, SHO and YOH, Roppongi 3K, will take on Dragon Lee and Ryusuke Taguchi of Taguchi Japan. A few weeks ago, YOH and Taguchi faced off in Best of the Super Juniors, as did SHO and Lee. These singles matches captivated Japanese fans, and the four are sure to impress in a tag team environment.
A fresh tag matchup sees Juice Robinson and David Finlay take on the Guerillas of Destruction, Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa. Robinson and Finlay may not be Japanese, but came up through hard work in the NJPW Dojo. Tama did the same, so this will be an interesting clash of western and eastern wrestling philosophies.
A living legend takes on a veteran of his own right in singles junior heavyweight action as Jyushin Thunder Liger faces Rocky Romero.
Then there’s Jeff Cobb, who wowed audiences with his strength and agility on the Kizuna Road tour. The suplex machine will face Chase Owens from the Bullet Club.
All the action goes down on Friday June 29 at 8:30 PM Eastern, and you can watch it all free on Twitch! Check out
