Returning to the New Japan Cup, Togi Makabe takes on Colt Cabana in the first round of the competition. The unchained King Kong will be keen to remind his jovial opponent that he is a two-time finalist for a reason. Cabana for his part will be looking to make an impact in his debut appearance and show the New Japan fans, what he’s all about.

In a rematch from last year’s New Japan Cup, the production genius Toru Yano again finds himself against the 2nd generation Bulldog. Yano will be looking to repeat his success in beguiling Davey Boy Smith Jr., but the KES member is even bigger and stronger than he was last year. Will the raw power of Davey Boy Smith Jr. be too much for Yano?

Despite being rivals throughout their respective NJPW careers, Satoshi Kojima and Minoru Suzuki have never faced each other in the New Japan Cup. Neither wrestler appeared in the 2018 New Japan Cup and will have a chip on their shoulder going in. Will “Strong Arm” Kojima get the better of the “The King of Pro-Wrestling” Suzuki, or will the sadistic leader of Suzuki-gun emerge victorious?

Last year, Cold Skull SANADA made an emphatic statement by advancing all the way to the Semi-finals. Since then, his stock has risen even higher, placing well in the standings of G1 Climax 28 and winning the IWGP Tag Team Championship for a second time. Hirooki Goto however is seeking to make a statement of his own. The three-time winner will be looking to add a fourth win to his name and finally grasp hold of the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, a prize that has eluded him throughout his NJPW career.
