Omega planned to have his first IWGP Heavyweight title defense against Tomohiro Ishii, but that was never to be after the fateful Wrestle Kingdom showdown with Okada on January 4th. After being ejected from the New Japan Cup at the hands of Ishii, Omega has made it clear he has nothing but contempt for the Stone Pitbull. This special match is the result of Omega’s direct challenge to Ishii after Omega unleashed the One Winged Angel on Ishii for the win at Ryogoku on April 9th. After the challenge, Ishii responded “1-on-1, let’s do this!”
