The Social Round-Up: Unione Politics

Our regular look at what NJPW wrestlers are saying on social media

As we pass the three month mark without a live NJPW event, it’s safe to say wrestlers are itching to get abck to work. To that end, some are already positioning themselves for future matchups. Meanwhile, talking about past matchups wasn’t exactly something that Taichi was thrilled about…

This weekend saw NJPW World host a special edition of their Tele Pro-Wrestling series, where guest commentators talk about some picks from the archives. Yes, the combination of Milano Collection A.T. and Taichi, Unione, was in effect. Over a decade has passed since the two were in the junior heavyweight tag team ranks, and anyone who has witnessed their interactions since will be aware that feelings have somewhat soured. Taichi was prompted to comment ‘If you have to do this thing, make Milano do it by himself. I’m busy looking after the house tonight. See ya’.

A reluctant Taichi did indeed participate in the end, but his mood didn’t exactly lighten any.

‘My head hurts… Don’t ever ask me again. These guys are just all over the place. Ten years worth of hassle right there’.

As for Taichi’s Suzuki-Gun teammate El Desperado, more controversy and antagonism. This time, in response to El Phantasmo referring to the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion as a ‘bitch’ in our interview (the English version of which will be coming this week), Desperado slammed ELP, stating ‘Where do you get off bitching to me? I’ll make you cry! I’ll shove a firecracker up your ass!’

Desperado had some more respectful words for IWGP Junior Heavyweight champ Hiromu Takahashi. Responding to Hiromu’s ‘happiness’ looking at his defeated face in our Best on their Best series (watch here!)

‘Hiromu, the face you were so happy to see was my crying face. Seeing that moment, my face for a few seconds there made a lot of memories come back. Thank you. Next time I won’t lose. That belt is mine.’

To which Hiromu responded:

‘So Hiromu’s going to be seeing a lot more of your crying face? I’ll bring a bottle to keep those tears in.’

‘It was the first time I’ve ever cried after losing a match. But, one and done. The only thing in our future is your crying face, so save that bottle for yourself. Anyway, I’ve TV to binge, so leave me be’.

Hiromu had much more to talk about when it comes to the junior heavyweight landscape, including a controversial suggestion in a recent NJPW World interview, so stay tuned for an English version!
