Special Edition of Lion’s Break Collision this Friday! 【NJoA】

Four matches on special edition to end July on Lion’s Break Collision

After fanatastic action and a tremendous online reaction to Lion’s Break Collision every week through July on NJPW World, this week’s event sees the culination of a month long issue between Karl Fredericks and Jeff Cobb, and much more to get hyped for!

Season pass, free episode one on FITE!

Main event: Karl Fredericks vs Jeff Cobb

Our main event sees a month long grudge settles as Jeff Cobb faces Karl Fredericks. On episode one of Collision, Fredericks officially graduated from Young Lion status, and made it clear that he would target the biggest dog that he could find to make a statement. That happened to be Jeff Cobb, a man he’s had connections to for years. After Fredericks was successful on his Collision debut, the self proclaimed ‘Always Alpha’ continued to brawl with Cobb after the bell.

Cobb appreciated Fredericks’ will to make his mark, but made it very clear that Karl wouldn’t make his mark at Cobb’s expense. That led to an altercation on episode three when Cobb hit the ring to suplex Fredericks almost out of his boots after his tag team victory. There was only one way to settle these differences, and that’s for the two to meet one on one in the main event of this special episode.

Last week, Fredericks debuted a brutally effective finish, the MD, to polish off The DKC. A win over Cobb certainly represents a major step in Fredericks’ destiny tonight, but the Olympian will want to reassert his power and experience edge, and have fun in the process with a suplex party.

3rd Match: Rocky Romero & Rust Taylor vs TJP & Clark Connors

A strong Southern Californian feel dominates the third match of the night, as original LA Dojo products Rocky Romero and TJP face off, with the Fil-Am Flash reuniting with Clark Connors as Romero teams with independent veteran Rust Taylor.

Romero was highly motivated by the Lion’s Break Collision concept ever since episode one, but has had to deal with some high profile losses, first against Fredericks in episode one, and last week against the debuting Tom Lawlor. As he tries to turn his fortunes around, he has enlisted a submission master in Taylor that should make for an effective combination.

TJP and Connors meanwhile, reform a team with proven chemistry, and a Super Junior Tag League victory over Tiger Mask and the explosive Yuya Uemura under their belts. This blend of youth and experience will make for a tough test to any tandem.

2nd Match: Misterioso vs Danny Limelight

In the second match of the evening, Danny Limelight returns to take on Misterioso in singles action.

Limelight made his debut on episode two of Collision, and although he fell just short against TJP, he nonetheless impressed with a strong combination of technical ability and high flying. Now with one NJPW match under his belt, he seeks results against the imposing luchador Misterioso.

For his part, Misterioso was on the losing end of tag team action last week on Collision, but with the NJPW experience edge over his opponent here tonight, will be tough to overcome in what should be an exciting matchup stylistically.

1st Match: Tom Lawlor vs Alex Coughlin

Collision sees a hot start as ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor takes on Alex Coughlin in our opener.

Lawlor’s debut on Collision last week was the subject of a lot of buzz, and the UFC alum and former MLW Heavyweight Champion more than acquitted himself, with a strong submission victory over Rocky Romero. Lawlor walked out of episode three with a considerable swagger and (arguably justified) arrogance, but Young Lion Alex Coughlin will be looking to hurl egg in Lawlor’s ‘Filthy’ face.

Coughlin, having studied under Katsuyori Shibata and Josh Barnett, will be looking to go back to his grappling roots against Lawlor, and trying to show how far he has developed in his short career. The potential is there for a landmark victory for Coughlin, but this is a formidable mountain to climb.
