NJPW STRONG Preview: Fighting Spirit Unleashed Night 1 【NJoA】

First part of two night spectacular Friday at 10e/9c/7p

For the next fortnight on NJPW STRONG, some of the world’s best will go to battle with Fighting Spirit Unleashed. The first night of action is now set, and Friday night’s STRONG will be unmissable!

Watch NJPW STRONG every Friday night on NJPW World!

Main event: Jay White vs Flip Gordon

The main event of STRONG this week sees Flip Gordon go one on one with Jay White. When Switchblade Jay White made his return to NJPW rings on STRONG a couple of weeks ago, it was to frustration at being on the losing end of tag team competition, with Gordon and Brody King claiming victory over he and Chase Owens. Quick and eager to prove a point, White would accept a singles match challenge.

As EVIL has dominated the main event scene in Japan, and KENTA has produced his own impressive results on STRONG, where does Jay White fit in the big picture of BULLET CLUB and NJPW? Doubtless the man himself has everything planned out, and tonight will be a big step toward painting that picture; that is if he can defeat Flip Gordon. The intensely athletic Gordon has the chance to defeat a former IWGP US, Intercontinental and Heavyweight Champion, and the significance of this bout will not be lost on the Mercenary.

3rd Match: Brody King vs Hikuleo

Brody King will take on Hikuleo in the third match this week on STRONG. King recovered from a New Japan Cup USA loss witha  devastating Gonso Bomb to Chase Owens two weeks ago, scoring victory for he and Flip Gordon over BULLET CLUB. Moments later however, Hikuleo made his shocking return from UK excursion, attacking King from behind and laying him out with the maneuver he has since named the Gunslinger. After a vicious attack from behind, Hikuleo now has to test his abilities face to face against violent and angry opposition.

2nd Match: Karl Fredericks vs Misterioso

A lot of fanfare surrounded Karl Fredericks upon his graduation from LA Dojo Young Lion status during Lion’s Break Collision. Despite making an immediate mark with a victory over Rocky Romero, he has yet to pick up a key singles victory, having suffered defeat at the hands of Jeff Cobb and KENTA. To a more experienced hand like Misterioso, Fredericks’ hype isn’t acceptable and the masked man is intent on putting the ‘Alpha Wolf’ in his place.

Misterioso showed his experience edge last Friday, picking his spots in a chaotic tag team match to secure victory for his team, to Fredericks’ violent frustration. Will he have the edge again tonight?

1st Match: Alex Zayne & Fred Rosser vs Clark Connors & The DKC

The action gets started on Friday night with the NJPW debut of Fred Rosser. ‘Mr. No Days Off’ has competed extensively for WWE and wrestled all over the world. Now he brings his skills to the cerulean blue, where he teams with an independent sensation in Alex Zayne. Opposite them are two men in need of a victory on NJPW STRONG. Can Clark Connors and the DKC pull off the win against some famous competition?
