World Tag League final set for Budokan

FinJuice to meet G.o.D December 11

The last league matches in World Tag League 2020 took place December 6 in Fukuoka, with last year’s winners FinJuice making back to back finals. David Finlay and Juice Robinson will meet the Guerrillas of Destiny as both sides made it through on tie breakers in a three way tie.

The first team to claim their spot in the finals were G.o.D as they faced HenarACE early in the evening. Though Henare battled hard, the story of the match was Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa punishing Hiroshi Tanahashi’s injured knee. A Sharpshooter secured victory for Tonga as Tanahashi tapped in a mere 3 minutes and 55 seconds, and The Ace was left with some serious questions to ask of himself as he made his exit.

Shingo Takagi and SANADA were hot favourites to be part of the tournament finals as they headed into the last night in a strong position on tie breaks, but they were denied by THE EMPIRE Sunday. Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb were brutally effective as they picked apart the LIJ side, and in the end it was O-Khan serving up Shingo Takagi for a Tour of the Islands that sent them crashing out of the running. The significance of Cobb pinning the NEVER Openweight Champion was not lost on him, and a clear challange was made after the match.

Dangerous Tekkers did everything right on the night in their last league match, but will not be part of the final in the Budokan. While Toru Yano tried to frustrate Dangerous Tekkers, and Tomohiro Ishii was as powerful as ever, Zack Sabre Junior and Taichi were not to be denied. The Holy Zack Driver was followed by Zack Mephisto on Ishii, and Taichi scored the pin over his rival to, thought the champions, send them through.

Yet it was FinJuice with the last win of the night. In a thrilling 15 minute 50 second sprint, last year’s tournament winners had the kitchen sink thrown at them by Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI, but gave as good as they got with some spectacular double teams and ultimately the stunner into Pulp Friction combination that won them the trophies in 2019.

With FinJuice, G.o.D and Dangerous Tekkers tied at 12 points, it came down to direct results, and the champions, having lost to both other teams, were out. At the end of the night though, it was G.o.D laughing last and loudest, brutally attacking FinJuice and making a statement that they’ll use any means necessary to break their World Tag League Curse this year. Can they do iit? Find out Friday December 11 with LIVE English commentary on NJPW World!
