Road to Sakura Genesis night 2 preview

Live action returns to NJPW World Monday March 29

After an eventful New Japan Cup, and with the announcement of the full card for Sakura Genesis on Sunday April 4, the Road to Sakura Genesis tour will get started this weekend with a live event in Gunma, before action returns to NJPW World on Monday night with the following matches.

Sakura Genesis Sunday April 4 with LIVE English commentary!

Main event: Kota Ibushi, Yuji Nagata & Tomoaki Honma vs United Empire (Will Ospreay, Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan)

Headlining in Korakuen Hall Monday night, Will Ospreay will face off with Kota Ibushi for the first time since Sakura Genesis’ main event for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship was made official. Already having sacrificed his relationships with CHAOS to take his place at the forefront of the United Empire, Ospreay put his body on the line to win the New Japan Cup, and will stop at nothing to get hold of Ibushi’s brand new title.

Yet the Golden Star’s vision for the world of professional wrestling at large is not something Kota Ibushi will be willing to relinquish easily. Ryogoku will see every possible boundary pushed Sunday April 4 in our main event, and Monday will show fans a taste of what is to come. Meanwhile, Ospreay’s partners in Cobb and O-Khan appear to have their own mission; Cobb has stated his intention to put every veteran wrestler in NJPW out of commission with a Tour of the Islands. The Imperial Unit will look to make good on that promise tonight; meanwhile will the group give any hint as to their mystery new member might be before Sakura Genesis?

4th Match: Satoshi Kojima, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs BULLET CLUB (Jado, Gedo & Jay White)

A veteran team will be standing opposite BULLET CLUB Monday in Korakuen when Hiroshi Tanahashi teams up with TenCozy to face Jay White and the World Class Tag Team of Jado and Gedo. Jay White has laid down his challenge to Tanahashi for the NEVER Openweight Championship, but the match has yet to be made official, and Tanahashi has yet to address the potential bout directly. That is not going to make the Switchblade happy, and White will head into this bout determined to take out his frustrations directly on the Ace.

3rd Match: CHAOS (YOSHI-HASHI, Hirooki Goto, Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano & Kazuchika Okada) vs BULLET CLUB (Taiji Ishimori, Yujiro Takahashi, Dick Togo, EVIL & KENTA)

CHAOS bring an all star team to ten man tag team action in the third match of the night opposite strong BULLET CLUB opposition. When YOSHI-HASHI took the brunt of a post match assault Sunday in Sendai, KENTA would make off with the Headhunter’s ceremonial staff, while Yujiro Takahashi laid a claim to the NEVER 6-Man Tag Team Championships held by three of his oppoentns tonight. Will BULLET CLUB cement that claim in Korakuen Hall?

2nd Match: Master Wato, Ryusuke Taguchi & SHO vs Suzuki-Gun (DOUKI, El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru)

Six man junior heavyweight action is second on the card as SHO leads a team of Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi opposite DOUKI and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru. ‘Team One or Eight’ started their 2021 with a challenge to Desperado and Kanemaru at Wrestle Kingdom that ultimately came up short, but will the results be different with SHO added to the team? The Roppongi 3K member would certainly hope so, as he starts the week of his title challenge with the returning YOH, hoping to pick up where the team left off as owners of the junior tag gold.

1st Match: Gabriel Kidd, Yota Tsuji, Yuya Uemura & Tiger Mask vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (Tetsuya Naito, SANADA, Shingo Takagi & BUSHI)

The night will kick off with Tiger Mask, returning to the ring after several weeks of inaction, leading a crew of Young Lions against Los Ingobernables De Japon. After each heavyweight member of the group was knocked out of the New Japan Cup, Los Ingobernables de Japon seek a new direction heading into the Sakura Genesis tour, but nothing pleases Tetsuya Naito and LIJ more than being outside agitators. Starting with Young Lions tonight, what will be the next step for LIJ?
