Jon Moxley defends against Karl Anderson; Archer Awaits 【NJoA】

Archer set to face Moxley Wrestle Kingdom 14 rematch

Resurgence August 14 at L.A. Coliseum! P1, P3 SOLD OUT! P2, P6 ALMOST GONE!

Jon Moxley attained a record fifth defence of the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship in Cedar Park, Texas on July 14, defeating Karl Anderson to retain the red and gold, though Lance Archer would be quick to challenge.

Anderson and Moxley kicked off the July 14 edition of AEW Dynamite; after any potential interference was nixed by Eddie Kingston fending off Doc Gallows, the match got off to a hot start as the two men traded forearm shivers. When Anderson got a brief advantage in the stand up, Moxley responded with a headbutt, and a clothesline followed that sent the challenger to the floor. There, Anderson would taste the guardrail, but a suplex on the floor would be countered by one from the Machine Gun; though the champion battled back, Anderson got the ring first, and used the higher ground that presented to rocket Moxley off the apron with a shotgun dropkick.

Anderson looked to follow off the top rope, but was cut off with a back rake and then a superplex. A German followed for the champion, as did a lariat to keep the challenger down, but Anderson threw all he had behind a lariat, his opponent responding in kind as both were knocked down.

As Moxley had the advantage on reaching his feet, the champion went for the kill, but Anderson reacted with a Bernard Driver that scored a near two. A neckbreaker followed from the top rope, and as momentum built for the challenger, Anderson shrugged off a rolling elbow to connect with a Gunstun; when Mox rolled away through, Anderson was unable to follow with a cover.

Anderson did cover from a TKO, but only got two as Moxley fought out. Looking high risk, the Machine Gun came off the top with another Gunstun attempt, but the champion avoided the attempt, and landed a ripcord lariat and the Death Rider to retain.

Lance Archer would quickly repsond backstage, demanding he get a title match in his hometown of Dallas next Wednesday night. Declaring Archer would be ‘Texas born, Texas bred, Texas dead’, a Texas Deathmatch is now official for July 21.

Moxley and Anderson will both be at the Torch at L.A. Coliseum August 14 at Resurgence.
