WRESTLER COMMENT
(CHAOS toast Okada with beer before leaving the comment booth)
-- Congratulations on your defense. You used the word ‘scary’ to describe the match, and it was certainly an epic battle.
Okada:
‘Well I think Fale today, any wrestler, any person could see that Fale was scary.’
-- You've faced Fale several times before. What gave you the edge tonight?
Okada:
‘I really don't know. A guy like that you really can't think of a key to victory for. He's so far outside the norm. But then, I was able to be pretty scary too.’
-- After the match you chose your next challenger yourself.
Okada:
‘I think that's fine for Osaka jo. There isn't a tournament where an automatic challenger is in place. And in that case, it could only possibly be Kenny. Everybody wants to see a follow-up to that Tokyo Dome match.’
-- Do you yourself want a follow-up to that match?
Okada:
‘Right after that match I didn't think I’d want to it again for a while. But I've gotten better since then and I think Kenny today is better than he was January 4th. So it's an exciting prospect.’
-- Since NJPW brought back Wrestling Dontaku as an annual show, this is the first sell out. What do you think about that momentum?
Okada:
‘Well, it definitely feels great to wrestle in front of a packed house. And to be in the main event and win, that good feeling keeps going. I only just heard the announcement that next year this will be a two day event, so hopefully that enthusiasm keeps going over the two days.’
-- You closed the show with some comments about what pro wrestling meant to you.
Okada:
‘This is a tough field, and the IWGP title is tougher still. I wanted to say that everyone gives all they have. Injuries happen. There is no such thing as a “safe” move in professional wrestling, and we do everything we can to win. There are lots of tough matches. But wrestlers are superhuman. To get to a superhuman level we train hard, we practice hard. We take any move there is, and give as good as we get, keep standing up and never quitting. The worry is that there are a lot of these injuries. But we as wrestlers can't let up. The company has to do what it can to care for the wrestlers. We give it all we can in the ring, the company does all it can to protect us and we give the fans a hell of a show.’
Fale:
‘I believe this: the best wrestler in the world is Kazuchika Okada. You're awesome. But there's someone who might be even better, and that's Kenny Omega. I think you know that, deep down. So I'll say this- you're in for the fight of your life.’
