BIOGRAPHY

Trained by pro wrestling legends Genichiro Tenryu and Riki Choshu, Ishii is renowned for his dogged determination and toughness. Known in NJPW as a no-nonsense workhorse able to produce amazing matches night after night, he takes the brunt of any opponent’s attacks head-on and returns the favor in kind. His short stature belies his explosive strength, which he uses to inflict brutal chops and head butts.

Ishii’s take no prisoners approach has earned him the IWGP Tag Team Championships, RPW’s British Heavyweight Championship twice and six NEVER Openweight Championship reigns.

Ishii saw impressive performances, especially in international bouts, tempered with a lack of positive results, giving him a mixed 2022. Turning the page into 2023 with full throttle and aggression, he instantly targeted Zack Sabre Jr., challenging him in Sapporo for the NJPW World TV Championship. Ishii was a step away from the victory as he pushed Zack to the limit. Refocusing on team wrestling, at Wrestling Dontaku 2023, Ishii teamed up with Kazuchika Okada & Hiroshi Tanahashi to win the NEVER Openweight 6 man Championships, and defended them through to the autumn while also pursuing singles success against Shingo Takagi at Royal Quest III.
