Elite defeat Empire on AEW Dynamite 【NJoA】

Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks get one up on Ospreay and Aussie Open

The main event of AEW Dynamite on August 31 saw Mark Davis, Kyle Fletcher and Will Ospreay represent the United Empire and NJPW as they took on the Elite team of Matt and Nick Jackson and Kenny Omega.

After a long war of words between Omega and Ospreay, Chicago was hungry for the two to face off, and they went right to business with heavy strikes early. As Ospreay gained an advantage in the corner, the Young Bucks pulled Ospreay away, leading to chaotic scenes; Aussie Open caught a pair of planchas from the Bucks and the IWGP US Champion would land a Skytwister Press to the pile.

There was no sign of the match settling down as all six fought up the ramp, Matt Jackson diving to his United Empire opposition off the stage. Pushing the advantage, the Elite finally had Ospreay under control as the crowd was evenly split between the Commonwealth Kingpin and Kenny Omega. After a handspring and double overhead, Ospreay would bring in Davis and then Fletcher to the match, with Aussie Open showing their phenomenal double team ability, but after a missed attempt at Corealis, a tag to Omega brought him in the plus position against Davis.

A barrage of Snapdragons from Omega took care of Aussie Open, and though Ospreay was able to avoid one intended for himself, he would end up tasting the move on the floor instead. As the momentum continued to seesaw though, Omega would taste a double superplex from Aussie Open for two; as he was brought back in legal, Ospreay showed his killer instinct as he targeted the surgically repaired abdonmen and shoulder.

Omega was in severe danger as he was tortured by the United Empire trio before a hip toss from an abdominal stretch and a desperate tag to Nick Jackson. The fired up Nick flowed superbly with offense to all three of his opponents, but a 450 would only find Ospreay’s knees; a Snapdragon from Ospreay and the angered Omega would come in to receive a powerbomb for his efforts.

Both teams would look to their signature finishes, the United Empire wanting an assisted OsCutter countered by Nick, while Ospreay would fly in with an OsCutter to prevent the Meltzer Driver. As Fletcher countered, Ospreay connected with a sensational Shooting Star Meltzer Driver that still didn’t end the match; as the bout continued to break down, Fletcher would be legal and alone at the end of the match, falling to the V-Trigger and Meltzer Driver.

That wasn’t all for the United Empire and the Elite though. As AEW Dynamite went off the air, Ospreay and the United Empire returned to the ring, laying the Young Bucks out with a Corealis and Stormbreaker onto a steel chair, before Ospreay landed Hidden Blade on a defenceless Omega. The issues between Ospreay and Omega, and both factions at large are far from over.
