Way to the Grandmaster runs through BOSJ trophy

Wato youngest Japanese winner of Best of the Super Juniors

Master Wato has won Best of the Super Jr. 30, becoming the youngest Japanese wrestler to win a BOSJ trophy at 26, and setting the scene for a title clash with Hiromu Takahashi at Dominion June 4.

The tournament final May 28 in Ota was an intense test of wills, and though things started scientifically, it quickly got intense. The first big hit was a tijeras from Wato to Titan, followed with a plancha. The move put the hontai member in the driver’s seat, but Titan would go down to the knee to slow his opponent and sink in an Indian Deathlock that would prove effective down the stretch.

As Titan built momentum, he went for a dive to the floor but was caught with a boot and then a tope con giro from Wato. A springboard upper followed for two, and Titan had to struggle quickly to the ropes and escape Vendeval. Those ropes would be Titan’s ally on a body scissors, which brought Wato to the floor; there Titan hit his own spectacular quebrada and a tope con giro to the amazed cheers of the crowd.

Realising the danger he was in, Wato dealt some heavy kicks but was met with an overhead at the 15 minute mark. As both reset, Wato denied Titan’s tornado DDT and got Recientemente for two, before going back to Vendeval that this time had El Inmortal struggling badly. While the masked man made the ropes, Wato had designs on Tsutenkaku, but was countered with a tornado DDT. Titan landed his Hamrick style corner lariat and buried springboard double boots to the back, but couldn’t get three.

Wato kicked out, but right into the Indian Deathlock. As the match passed 20 minutes, Wato scrambled for the ropes, and Titan tried for Llave Inmortal, just barely unable to hook Wato who got a finger tip to the bottom strand. Willing all he had, Wato escaped Titan’s follow up but only got two from the Tsutenkaku German as the match continued.

Titan struck in brutal combination, from La Mistica to a Skayde Special for two to a kick combination and double stomp, again only for two. Titan wanted Llave Inmortal again, but was caught with a tornado kick, and this time Wato rolled his Tsutenkaku German into Recientemente 2 for the victory. In his post match, Wato challenged Hiromu Takahashi in his hometown of Osaka at Dominion, as the Way to the Grandmaster continues.
