Road to Power Struggle/Super Jr. Tag League night 7 (October 31) Preview

League approaches the wire in Toyama

Night seven of the Super Jr. Tag League sees action hit Toyama on Halloween night. The frightening threat of elimination will be a reality for some of our teams, while front runners want to take the spooky road to success in their pre-penultimate matchups.

Main event: El DespeWato (El Desperado & Master Wato) (5-1) vs Catch 2/2 (TJP & Francesco Akira) (3-3)

The fifth consecutive main event for El DespeWato sees them facing one of the pre-tournament favourites in Catch 2/2. El Desperado and Master Wato’s journey to grudging acceptance and tag team efficacy has been quite something to watch over the last few nights, with a win over Drilla Moloney and Clark Connors being a crowning achievement. Now, they prove a difficult test for Francesco Akira and TJP, especially with the weakened neck of TJP being a target for much of the former champions’ competition. Can they put a stop to the odd couple’s momentum?

7th match: BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney) (4-2)vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (SHO & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (4-2)

After recording a second loss in their tournament to El DespeWato Saturday, IWGP Junior Tag Champions Moloney and Connors felt they could ill afford another black mark on their records. Monday in Niigata they bounced back, moving to eight points and eliminating DOUKI and TAKA Michinoku in the process. Now they look to get to ten against SHO and Kanemaru, who are also threatening the final. Can they beat the IWGP Junior Tag Champions in what is technically a BULLET CLUB derby?

6th Match: Intergalactic Jet Setters (KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight) (3-3) vs Ichiban Sweet Boys (Kosei Fujita & Robbie Eagles) (3-3)

While KUSHIDA and Kevin Knight’s forward steam was stalled by the incredible momentum of El Desperado and Master Wato Monday, Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita have picked up two straight wins to get to six points. Now both teams have their backs against the wall, but can they stay in the hunt?

5th Match: Just Five Guys (DOUKI & TAKA Michinoku) (1-5) vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (Titan & BUSHI) (3-3)

DOUKI & TAKA are mathematically eliminated

At just two points, DOUKI and TAKA Michinoku’s chances of making Saturday’s finals are now non existent. BUSHI and Titan are still very much alive, having bounced back from three consecutive losses to now being at six points and certainly in the hunt, albeit with a rough road to the finals. Can they stay alive, or will they fall to two of Just Five Guys?

4th Match: Musashi Komatsu (YOH & MUSASHI) (2-4) vs Funky Fire (DKC & Ryusuke Taguchi) (2-4)

Both teams must win

The 2-4 combinations of YOH and MUSASHI and Taguchi and The DKC have long odds of making it to Power Struggle Saturday. With three matches left, their best hope will be a tie at ten points to get through in second place. Both sides need to win out and have some help; that means one or both of our two teams are certain to be eliminated after this bout- who survives?

3rd Match: CHAOS (Toru Yano, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL, Dick Togo & Yujiro Takahashi)

CHAOS and HOUSE OF TORTURE once again collide in the third match of the night. With the record so far this tour entirely in CHAOS’ favour, things are looking bleak for a team headed by a man calling himself the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion just one month ago. Who picks up the win tonight?

2nd Match: Shota Umino & Ren Narita vs United Empire (Great-O-Khan & Callum Newman)

Shota Umino and Ren Narita once again face off with the United Empire’s Great-O-Khan and Callum Newman. With young member Newman eating repeated losses, it hasn’t been a great couple of weeks for the Unoited Empire side as Shota Umino continues to deliver a message to Will Ospreay. Will things change in Toyama?

1st Match: Tomoaki Honma, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Togi Makabe vs Oskar Leube, Yuto Nakashima & Boltin Oleg

The night starts with Young Lions and veterans colliding once again for what should be a high intensity start to proceedings in Toyama!
