Mayu retains IWGP Women’s Gold in Texas 【NJoA】

Iwatani reaches V2

The semi main event of Lonestar Shootout on November 10 would see the IWGP Women’s Championship on the line, Mayu Iwatani defending the title for the second time against CMLL’s Stephanie Vaquer.

Order the replay now!

Iwatani and Vaquer started by exchanging holds early, before the challenger gained an edge with a brutal Dragon Screw out of the corner. Using her power advantage very effectively, Vaquer gave the champion no breathing room, and even as Iwatani tried to fight from underneath, prevented a tope suicida and springboarded into a cross body for two.

A massive superkick finally gave Iwatani some space, and a Dragon suplex followed up. Now on the second try, Iwatani got all of Vaquer on a tope suicida and followed with a frog splash back inside for two. A Moonsault through would be caught by Vauqer into an omoplata; the champion faded into near unconsciousness but just barely managed to make the ropes as the match continued.

A brutal german suplex from Vaquer saw the challenger back in the driver’s seat; Mayu would get the Dodonpa and a superkick for two each, but was still badly wobbled. Drawing on the crowd to summon up strength though, Iwatani would land a Tombstone, and a moonsault would bring three.
