Doering scoops IMPACT victory

One of the most hotly anticipated matches on IMPACT Wrestling’s Against All Odds event on June 12 saw a match with over a decade of history behind it as Satoshi Kojima battled former AJPW Triple Crown opponent Joe Doering. 

Kojima gave up a few centimetres in height to Doering, who navigated the Third Generation member into the ropes and would not fall to a series of tackles from Kojima- at least until the NJPW representative stomped on the toes of the big man. Still, Doering fired right back with a tackle of his own and followed with an elbow drop for two. 

Doering kept piling on the pressure to Kojima with a Boston Crab that brought his opponent to the ropes before being forced into the corner. A hard slam center ring followed, but Kojima was finally able to misdirect his opponent in the corner before unleashing a machine gun chop barrage and the Bakayaro Elbow for two.

Kojima kept up the offense with a flurry of elbows, but Doering responded with a spinebuster, Kojima rolling to the floor where his opponent would not let him rest. Kojima would be sent back first into the apron but swept the leg of Doering as he tried to get back in the ring with a lariat to the floor. Doering’s Violent By Design teammate Rhino would try to get involved to sway the balance of the match but got reversed into the ringpost by Kojima, who re-entered the ring and scored a DDT for two. 

As both men found their feet, Kojima first tried to suplex Doering and then accelerate to knock him down, but was met with a violent cross body. Doering wanted a powerbomb, but took a Koji Cutter instead. Just as Kojima went to end the match with a lariat he would be met with a Fireman’s Carry slam and then a short arm lariat of Doering’s own; this wasn’t enough to finish Kojima, but the Spiral Bomb was, and Doering emerged with a big victory.
