WRESTLER COMMENT

Okada:
‘25 minutes 49 seconds. That's a failing on my part. Elgin at his best shouldn't be able to last 25 minutes with me. I've been taking it too easy. I should be perfect against everyone, put everyone away easily. Today if anything Elgin and I were matches as far as strength goes.’

-- You had Yano in your first match and Elgin tonight. Obviously you have to take on a lot of very different opponents in very different arenas.

Okada:
‘I don't see it so much as me taking them on, or rising to them, it's more that anyone that comes to me I'm able to bring the best out of. It's a natural process, as natural as breathing. But being above everybody else and being able to do that, that's what being a champion is.’

-- Things for you so far have been going to plan. Two wins, and from here you look to sweep the board and continue on as IWGP Champion. How do you feel about the rest of the campaign?

Okada:
‘I never said my goal was to sweep the board, I never said my goal was to remain champion. Those are petty goals to me, little feats. I have my eyes set on something bigger. To be honest, I don't really appreciate having to answer that kind of pithy question.’

-- So what does come next?

Okada:
‘Showing you is my job as champion! Just watch!’

-- What we saw today was your opponent looking at you very differently, having a different drive because you are the champion, is that something you aim for?

Okada:
‘I’d say so, yes. Being the champion, that's what you expect whether your opponents had fifteen matches or fifteen hundred. But more than that, it's not about having opponents look at you different, but carry themselves differently, being different in mind, body and soul.’

-- From here, the G1 goes on the road around the country and the schedule starts to get tough. Your thoughts?

Okada:
‘Well, I haven't really met a tough challenge yet on the tour, so I really want to face someone who’ll make me sweat and push me to my limits. Thank you.’
