‘As his senior, well he still has a long way to go. As his dad, give me a second; I'm going to go and cry in the restroom.’


Shota Umino:
‘Ah, I'll train harder, get stronger and reach the top in New Japan! Thank you!’

-- How do you feel about having made your debut today?

Umino:
‘I'm humble, but I'm happy.’

-- What about the result tonight?

Umino:
‘Well, when I saw the card and that I was opposite TAKA, I wasn't sure I could beat him. He's had the career he's had, a former WWE Superstar as well. But heart is what counts. From now on, whether it's TAKA or any other of my seniors, I’ll show that heart. It doesn't matter how big or strong they may be, my heart won't be beaten, and eventually I'll reach the top here.’

-- What's your ambition here in New Japan?

Umino:
‘Up to now, I've had no experience in amateur wrestling, no experience in MMA. I crawled out of the crib, right to the dojo. There are people who might say an amateur or MMA background would help, but I disagree. From now on, I can do anything and beat anyone with my heart and willpower. And eventually I want to be champion and I want to carry the company forward. Thank you!’
