The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship was on the line at Sakura Genesis, when former partners YOH and SHO did battle.

As soon as YOH’s music rang out in Ryogoku, the challenger came sprinting out with title gold and the champion in hot pursuit, YOH first to the ring and catching SHO with a dropkick and the match officially getting underway. Things took an unfortunate and immediate turn though as YOH seemingly injured his shoulder, causing the referee to stop the match and SHO therefore retaining his title.

As SHO twistedly celebrated his victory and YOH heartbreakingly was helped backstage, Kosei Fujita entered the ring. Taking to the mic, Fujita challenged SHO for the title with aspirations of becoming the youngest junior heavyweight champion in history. Crisis creating opportunity, DOUKI appeared and made his own claim to challenging for the title. In response, SHO would refuse the challenge from both men and gloat in the centre of the ring, only to be sent tumbling by Fujita’s springboard dropkick. The bold TMDK man picked up the junior title and faced off with DOUKI before making his exit, with DOUKI one-upping Fujita by taking the belt with him as he made his exit.

As DOUKI left with the title he made a declaration to the champion: SHO can challenge the winner of DOUKI vs Fujita, the title scene heating up massively ahead of Best of the Super Juniors.
