Jyushin Thunder Liger started the new decade on the undercard at the Tokyo Dome; while his position teaming with Koji Kanemoto and the still relatively unknown Kazuchika Okada was not where he would have liked to be, it spoke volumes about how stars would emerge in the coming decade when it came to the main event ten years later.
Tiger Mask would battle NOAH’s Naomichi Marufuji later in the evening, a match that saw Marufuji emerge with the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. The fiercely proud Liger would immediately step up to challenge Marufuji, in a match that would end in defeat for Liger; he nonetheless went down fighting, and fighting hard.
Overseas, Liger was as active as ever. While his battle against La Sombra in Best of the Super Junio0rs this year ended in ignominuous countout defeat due to the innovative high fliers acrobatic dives, Liger would be successful wrestling extensively in CMLL and JAPW in the States in 2010. As he entered the last decade of his active career, Liger was as internationally popular as ever.
